1801 Pennsylvania Avenue renovation completed

The comprehensive repositioning of 1801 Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of Washington D.C.’s business district is now completed.

Located a block from the Farragut West metro station on the blue, orange and silver lines and across from Murrow Park, The World Bank and International Monetary Fund, the 13-story 197,000 square foot building has undergone a full renovation that builds upon the charm of the former MCI headquarters and introduces a new hospitality-led office experience.

1801 Penn now features a dual-height entry opening into a reconfigured lobby, a new fitness center, expanded rooftop terrace, and ground level space dedicated to future retail tenants. New floor-to-ceiling glazing and enlarged corner office windows along Pennsylvania Avenue provide dramatic views of Murrow Park, along with generous garage parking.

We reimagined 1801 to deliver an elevated, boutique environment with market-leading amenities to meet the needs and improve the experience of today’s workforce. A hospitality-inspired lobby with social lounge and coffee bar is available all-day to tenants and guests for both social interaction and collaborative work.

A distinctive open-air cupola and one of the tallest rooftops in the District make 1801 Penn ideal for meetings, cocktails, fitness and client hosting with views of the Washington Monument, Reagan National Airport and the White House. The 5,000 square foot fitness center features Peloton bikes, TRX training equipment, Wellbeats on-demand classes, Yoga and HIIT studio spaces, energy “nap” pods, and luxurious locker rooms.

We are excited to offer this re-imagined property to the DC market. It combines what today’s DC workforce expects for a great day-to-day experience with best practices from our global portfolio. Our track record around the world in supplementing office properties with on-site activation, curated amenities, and thoughtful community-driven experiences adds tremendous value to our tenants, the community and our assets,” said Cory Saunders, VP/Head of Washington DC office for Pembroke.

With a global portfolio of 8.6M sq. ft and recent office developments and repositionings across six markets, we have leveraged its expertise in community management services, activation and programming to bring added benefits to DC tenants. Combined with these new amenities, 1801 Penn’s 16,000 sq. ft floorplates and flexible side-core design provide prominence, presence and connectivity appealing across industries and sectors.

1801 Penn was originally built in 1992, and conceptualized for MCI Worldcom Headquarters, a telecom company that was acquired by Verizon in 2005.
